Tonight we start the show discussing an event from last fall that has finally made it to the mainstream media of a TSA slip up, fortunately it has nothing to do with the naked body scanners but with them letting a loaded gun slip past one of their screeners. We move on to discuss an editorial from our Governor, Rick Perry, 'Storm Clouds Gathering Along US-Mexico Border' - http://governor.state.tx.us/news/editorial/15440/

We then touch on a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety where the DPS is urging holiday travelers to avoid Mexico. According to DPS Director Steven C. McCraw, “Mexican drug cartel-related violence continues in the northern Mexican border cities, and other locations such as Monterrey and Acapulco. Drug-related or other criminal activity has been documented in popular tourist destinations such as Cancun and Mazatlan. The safety and security of holiday travelers cannot be guaranteed if they venture into Mexico”.

The rising tide of violence in Mexico is well-documented from a variety of sources. Kidnappings, violence between cartels and battles between cartels and law enforcement authorities have escalated in recent years.

The U.S. State Department website lists travel information related to violence in Mexico. Among the items noted on the website:

Kidnapping, including the kidnapping of non-Mexicans, continues at alarming rates.
Criminal assaults have occurred on highways throughout Mexico; travelers should exercise caution at all times; avoid traveling at night.
Rape and sexual assault continue to be serious problems in Cancun and other resort areas.
Mexican authorities have failed to prosecute numerous crimes committed against U. S. citizens, including murders and kidnappings.

“We recognize people safely travel and vacation in Mexico on a daily basis, but the increase in violence is also a reality,” said McCraw. “There are no guarantees that drug-related violence will spare innocent bystanders and that criminals will refrain from attacking tourists.”

According to the poll, if they could vote to keep or replace the entire Congress, just 25% of voters nationwide would keep the current batch of legislators. 57% would vote to replace the entire Congress and start all over again. Eighteen percent (18%) are not sure how they would vote.

It goes on to state that overall, these numbers are little changed since last October. With Democrats controlling both chambers of Congress, it's not surprising to find that the number of Democrats who would vote to keep the entire Congress has grown from 25% last fall to 43% today. In fact, a modest plurality of Democrats would now vote to keep the legislators. Last fall, a plurality of Democrats were ready to throw them all out.

We then move onto an article from Gun Owners of America titled 'He Had A Gun and Nothing Happened'. This is in response to the several townhall meetings across the country where firearms were present.

According to the article, The Second Amendment was added to our Constitution to ensure that the individual right to keep and bear arms not be infringed. Infringement would impair the proper functioning of the militia which had been America’s homeland security system all through colonial times and well into our republican era.

The armed attendees made it clear that they were exercising their right to keep and bear arms. Zero tolerance of firearms has become so extreme that even a picture of a gun can get a student kicked out of school. The presence of armed citizens helps correct the notion that guns are inherently dangerous.

There are those who don’t like Americans owning guns at all, let alone carrying them openly. They can be counted on to run around squawking like Chicken Little that the sky is falling -- a calamity brought about by the presence of an armed citizen in public. We are warned that: “Somebody might grab the gun and do something bad! The armed citizen will intimidate others! Tempers will flare and blood will run in the streets!”

Here are some good recommendations someone sent me if you do choose to open carry:

TO DO IF YOU ARE TO CARRY:

1) Locate a private property (church, business parking lot, etc) that gives you permission to be present with arms.

2) Ideally, a phone call should be made to the local police station to let them know. This was what was done in Arizona. Is it necessary? No. But it's a nice gesture and smooths relations. If you have the necessary license, they will say 'cool, thanks for informing us' and that's that.

3) If possible, go as a group of at least three or more. There are a number of reasons, both political and legal, for this. a) It's actually less intimidating to have multiple people armed than one. One person armed can make police nervous--lone gunman syndrome. Several people armed and you have a less suspicious social gathering of common interests. That's basic psychology. b) By extension, opposition thugs are less likely to attack a group.

4) Do not attempt to enter the town hall meeting itself. These are in government buildings--school zones and libraries--so a distance will need to be kept if armed.

5) Only people that have open or CCW permits should attempt this--any mistake or arrest will be used by the press.

6) Have fun and SMILE about it. A an angry fist with a gun will make the cover of Time magazine the wrong way.

In the last few minutes I try to hit on a few of the new laws that go into effect in Texas as of Sept 1st, mainly HB537 which requires all occupants of a vehicle, no matter their age, to be secured by a safety belt, no matter where they are seated in the vehicle

HB 55 makes it illegal to use a wireless communication device in aschool zone unless the vehicle is stopped or a hands-free device isused. Cities or counties wanting to enforce this law must post a sign at the beginning of each school zone to inform drivers that using awireless communications device is prohibited and the operator is subject to a fine

HB 2730 amends numerous provisions regarding concealed handgun licenses(CHLs), including eliminating student loan defaults as a disqualifier,to clarify that DPS must suspend or revoke a license when the licenseebecomes ineligible and mandating that a magistrate suspend a CHL held by the subject of an emergency protective order.

HB 2664 provides a defense to prosecution if a concealed handgun license holder carries a concealed handgun into an establishment that gets 51percent or more of its income from the sale of alcoholic beverages, but has failed to post the statutorily required notice that it derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale of alcoholic beverages.(Under current law, a concealed handgun licensee can be charged with aClass A misdemeanor for doing this.)

HB 2730 removes DPS authority to suspend a concealed handgun license(CHL) for the holder's failure to display the CHL to a peace officer ondemand. It removes associated penalties and suspensions for the failure to display.

HB 2730 increases the driver license sanction from a one-year CDL license disqualification to a lifetime disqualification if a person usesa motor vehicle to transport, conceal or harbor an alien.

HB 558 allows minors to be charged with public intoxication. SB 1188 authorizes a Texas resident to buy firearms, ammunition orfirearms accessories in any other state, not just those contiguous toTexas, to reflect updated federal statutes.

We then go into the most important topic tonight which is the US Senate to consider Right to Carry Reciprocity Amendment early next week, possibly Monday...According to Gun Owners of America,Senators John Thune and David Vitter are the sponsors of S. 845 -- a bill that will establish concealed carry reciprocity amongst the several states.Senators Thune and Vitter offered the bill as an amendment (#1618) to the Department of Defense authorization bill (H.R. 2647).HR 2647 can be found in its entirety here - http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h2647/show

This provision will use the constitutional authority allowing Congress to enforce "full faith and credit" across the country, so that each state respects the "public acts, records, and judicial proceedings" of every other state (Article IV).The benefit of the Thune/Vitter legislation is that -- unlike other, competing measures -- it would protect the right of any U.S. citizen to carry out of state (regardless of whether he possesses a permit), as long as he is authorized to carry in his home state. We end the show with good news, Texas Attorney Greg Abbott has filed a brief with the US Supreme Court - along with 32 other states, to defends Americans’ right to keep and bear arms.According to the release,

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court that defends Americans’ right to keep and bear arms. The amicus brief, which was filed on behalf of 33 state attorneys general, supports a legal challenge by Otis McDonald, a community activist who lives in a high-crime Chicago neighborhood. McDonald’s work to improve his neighborhood has subjected him to violent threats from drug dealers, but city ordinances prohibit him from obtaining a handgun to protect himself. The state attorneys general argue that cities cannot simply ignore the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and impose a blanket ban on handguns.

“Last year, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down the District of Columbia’s handgun ban and held that the Second Amendment protects individual Americans’ right to keep and bear arms,” Attorney General Abbott said. “The brief filed today urges the nation’s highest court to hear community activist Otis McDonald’s challenge to an ordinance that prohibits him from possessing a handgun to protect himself from the criminals he has worked to eradicate from his high-crime neighborhood. Today’s amicus brief reflects an effort by more than thirty attorneys general to defend law-abiding Americans’ constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.”

The states’ amicus brief says: “The right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment is not just a ‘fundamental’ liberty interest. In the Anglo-American tradition, it is among the most fundamental of rights because it is essential to securing all our other liberties. The Founders well understood that, without the protections afforded by the Second Amendment, all of the other rights and privileges ordinarily enjoyed by Americans would be vulnerable to governmental acts of oppression.”

According to the states’ amicus brief, the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution applies to states under the Fourteenth Amendment, and the right to keep and bear arms is a right that states have long recognized. In fact, 44 state constitutions protect their residents’ right to bear arms. The brief adds: “The submission of this amicus brief provides further evidence of the States’ understanding of the fundamental importance of the arms-bearing right guaranteed by the Second Amendment.”

“Just as local governments cannot constitutionally act as ‘laboratories’ for initiatives to abrogate their citizens’ right to free speech or their freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures, nor can they nullify the fundamental right to keep and bear arms secured by the Second Amendment,” the amicus brief states.

The states’ amicus brief acknowledges that some firearms regulations are permissible, including in circumstances where they are necessary to prevent violent felons from owning guns.The states ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear both the McDonald case and National Rifle Association of America Inc., et al v. City of Chicago, Ill., et al.

The states that joined Texas in the amicus brief are: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.

The senate committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will be considering the legislation very soon.

The PASS Act does not repeal the Real ID Act. It does repeal provisions of the Real ID Act; those provisions that are included in Title II of the Real ID Act 2005. The Real ID Act is still intact and is federal law.

The PASS Act contains many of the most egregious aspects of the Real ID Act; including the requirement for a digital facial image/photograph that will be mandated to be internationally facial recognition compatible.

After this we discuss the current situation in Iran. We didnt really reference too much on the internet, this is from watching the "news" all morning on Fox. We also discussed the poll they displayed regarding countries that pose a threat to the US, with North Korea at the top with 38%. We also read a short article from the AP regarding the possibility of a missile test by N Korea over the 4th of July weekend.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he's positioning defenses near Hawaii just in case North Korea fires a missile across the Pacific toward the island state.
Gates says he's sent the military's ground-based mobile missile system to Hawaii, and positioned a radar system nearby. Together the systems theoretically could detect and shoot down a North Korean missile if it came to that.

Gates says the U.S. is watching the North's moves very closely. He says there is concern about a potential launch toward Hawaii, although he did not spell out how extensive the U.S. thinks the threat might be.

A Japanese newspaper reported Thursday that North Korea might fire its most advanced ballistic missile toward Hawaii around the Fourth of July holiday.

Key among the secondary organizations is the radical racist group Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), one of the most anti-American groups in the country, which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to carve a racist nation out of the American West.

This is totally opposed by MEChA for the hordes of illegal immigrants pouring across our borders, to whom they say:

"Chicano is our identity; it defines who we are as people. It rejects the notion that we...should assimilate into the Anglo-American melting pot...Aztlan was the legendary homeland of the Aztecas ... It became synonymous with the vast territories of the Southwest, brutally stolen from a Mexican people marginalized and betrayed by the hostile custodians of the Manifest Destiny." (Statement on University of Oregon MEChA Website, Jan. 3, 2006)

MEChA isn't at all shy about their goals, or their views of other races. Their founding principles are contained in these words in "El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan" (The Spiritual Plan for Aztlan):

"In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny. ... Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. ... We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada."

That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: "For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing."

MEChA and the La Raza movement teach that Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington State make up an area known as "Aztlan" -- a fictional ancestral homeland of the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America. As such, it belongs to the followers of MEChA. These are all areas America should surrender to "La Raza" once enough immigrants, legal or illegal, enter to claim a majority, as in Los Angeles. The current borders of the United States will simply be extinguished.

This plan is what is referred to as the "Reconquista" or reconquest, of the Western U.S.

Proposal Stopping Confiscation Of Guns Now Law (Tennessee) (AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A person who legally possesses a gun would not have it seized during periods of martial rule under a proposal that has been signed into law by the governor. The measure was signed by Gov. Phil Bredesen on Thursday and takes effect immediately. Sponsors say martial rule is the same as martial law at the federal level. They say the law is necessary after law enforcement in New Orleans went door to door seizing weapons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Republican Sen. Jack Johnson of Brentwood, one of the sponsors, has said he doesn't expect such behavior in Tennessee, but believes legislation should be in place just in case.
